What is the definition of “victim”? I was not affected that much, or maybe it’s just that I don’t realize that I WAS affected. Then what am I?
Everyone could be a victim in that sense. Or maybe there is no victim at all.
But I simply thought that I needed to do something about it.
With no answer comes my art without giving any answer to answer my question.

“With Surface/texture + sequence, painting will be of insensibility”
Literally, every surface of space talks to us with its own texture. However today there are too many materials floating around in our life, without any interrelation. And so we see much less accumulation of time on the surface of space, and also, memory and senses that are naturally connected are much less today than what it used to be. I would like to create invisible ties among human, space and nature by designing space-experience with consecutive texture that consist of time and distance as a stored memory.

風景画というジャンルが興隆したのは19世紀末。1世紀を経て現代の風景、及び風景表現は大きく変貌しました。1999年4月にスタートしシリーズ13回目となる、絵画、彫刻、工芸、写真、デザイン、建築、インスタレーションなど様々なジャンルの新しい世代が現代のシーンへアプローチするProject Exhibition。

The genre of landscape painting first flourished at the end of the 19th century. A century later, both the contemporary landscape and its representation have been dramatically transformed. This Project Exhibition will be the 14th installment of a series started in April 1999. The exhibition includes contemporary approaches to the landscape by a new generation of artists in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, craft, photography, design, architecture and installation.

アーティストとは、世界を独自の感性で捉えてそれを形にし、私たちに"なにか"を伝えてくれるメッセンジャーともいえます。その"なにか"とは私たちが日々見聞きする日常の様々なメッセージとは次元の異なるセカンドメッセージなのです。2012年春、"アーティスト＝メッセンジャー" によるセカンドメッセージが銀座を駆け巡り、街に化学反応を起こします。

GALLERY PROGRAM:
プロジェクト全体のインフォメーションセンターとして、アーティスト全員の作品や作品の一部の展示、プロジェクトに関するプレゼンテーションを行ないます。
また、来場者の皆様へプロジェクトに関するご案内をします。

CROSS PROGRAM:
絵画、デザイン、映像などによる次世代のビジュアルアーティストが、社会とのコミットの方法を探りながら実際に銀座の街を舞台にアクションを起こしていくプログラムです。そのアクションを通じ、銀座に訪れる人々にとって、アーティスト自身にとって、そしてコミットされる場に携わる人々にとって新たな価値観の発見が得られることを目指します。

J_ART_2ndはTOKYO ARTISTS と NY ATISTSのコラボレーションで、日本の新しい世代のアートの流れをあらゆるジャンルに渡りプレゼンテーションするプログラムです。
ペインティング、版画、写真、オブジェ、コンテンポラリークラフト、インスタレーション、ビデオアート、サウンドアートからダンスパフォーマンスまで、様々な作品が歴史的な建造物、WILLIAMSBURG ART & HISTORICAL CENTER の空間のあらゆるスペースにコミットします。
1Fホールから小部屋、階段吹き抜けスペース、レストルーム、2Fギャラリースペース、3FパフォーマンススタジオまでのWAHを構成するすべての空間に展開する30名を超えるアーティストたちの試みです。

J_ART_2nd is an art exhibition introducing young Japanese artists from Tokyo and NY. The program consists of all genre of art: painting, wood-block printing, photography, object, contemporary craft making, installation, video art, sound art and dance performance. The art works will be exhibited and displayed everywhere inside WILLIAMSBURG ART & HISTORICAL CENTER, one of the historical buildings of Brooklyn.
Hall and small rooms, stair-case, restroom of 1F, gallery in 2F, performance studio of 3F…literally every single space you can find in WAH. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see the artworks of over 30 young Japanese artists.

佐藤香「すべては渦の中にある」―私の故郷、福島―
私の実家は原発から約40kmのところにあります。震災後、故郷で採取した土で絵を描くようになりました。今問題になっている汚染された土を使うことは、拝観する人を怖がらせたり原発問題に物申したいわけではなく、ただの故郷自慢のようなものです。私の故郷は視覚的には美しいままだということを絵で表現したいと考えています。
また、活動していた石巻の津波跡に残るモノの成れの果ての風景が頭の中から離れませんでした。すべては形なく渦となって転がっていました。以前とは全く違った生活を送らなければならない人々、何かが変わってしまったのに以前と同じ生活をしなければならない私のまわり。とにかく始めなければならない状況で、私は始まりの形を探しました。それは、私の中にある、DNAや指紋、母のお腹で眠る胎児や種に潜む若葉のカタチ、すべては渦の中にあると考えました。それは津波跡に見たモノの成れの果てのカタチと同調し、その相反する始まりと終わりの共鳴を表現したいと願い、制作しています。

Kaori Sato “The Whirl Has It All” –Fukushima, My Home
My home is located roughly 40km north of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. After the disaster, I started painting using the soil of my hometown. Well, about the contaminated soil - it’s not that I want to scare the viewers or anything. It’s not that I’m anti-nuke either. It’s just that I’m showing off my hometown. All I want to illustrate is that my hometown is as beautiful as it was in the past.
The “stuffs” and the scars lest by the tsunami in Ishinomaki, where I was working, still remain inside my head as photographic memory. Everything lost its shape, and everything was left whirl-shaped. There are some people who are forced to live differently, whereas there are people I know who are forced to live the same way even after things changed around them. I started something new, because I needed to. It’s my DNA, it’s my fingerprint, it’s a baby sleeping in mother’s womb, and it’s the shape of young leave inside a seed…I thought everything was in a whirl. It goes along with those “stuffs” after the tsunami, and there, I saw contradiction between the beginning and the end.

　　　山形県にて、廃校の小学校や雪祭りなどで展示。地域に密着した展示を行う。養蚕やウサギ狩りなど、民俗学を学ぶ。
2010.東北芸術工科大学卒業・修了展　優秀賞受賞
2010.東京藝術大学院美術研究科壁画専攻　入学
2011.宮城県取手市関東鉄道常総線「ゆめみ野駅」の壁画を制作
　　　　山形県山形市のアーティストiwanami1100のアトリエの壁を制作
　　　　宮城県石巻市ギャラリー・カフェ「川べりの散歩道」にてギャラリーの壁を修復。同時に、展覧会「いしのまきの大きな川から」開催
2012.東京藝術大学卒業・修了展にて杜賞受賞
