“あの日、あっけなくわたしの故郷は消え去った。
しかし、わたしのなかにそれは色濃くある。”
何をもって、ひとはあるというの。
何をもって、ひとはないといい切れるの。
ずっと、私は死にもの狂いで かき留め続けた。
故郷は私に告げてくれた。その存在の内のすべての物語を。
すべてのメソッドを。
私はその時から、長い長い物語を描き切ることを　故郷に宿命づけられたのだ。






Haruna Yasui “The Story of Isatomae” (Isatomae = name of region)

That day, my hometown vanished in just a few minutes.
But it still lives on as photographic memory in my mind.
How can you tell it’s all gone?
How can you tell it’s still there?
I fanatically kept on searching for stories.
My hometown taught me. Taught me all the stories I should know.
Taught me all the methods I should know.
I am now destined to complete my long long story someday. It’s the will of my hometown.

Haruna Yasui
1987 Born in Kesennuma, Japan
Raised in Kanagawa and would return to Utatsucho (Minami Sanrikucho today) every year to spend summer vacation, and become heavily influenced by the life there.
2006 Entered Tama Art University, Faculty of Art and Design, Printmaking Major, and learned copper printing
2010 Entered Graduate School at Tama Art University, Faculty of Art and Design, Printmaking Major
2012 Graduated from Tama Art University Graduate School
Currently works as a printmaker/pen-drawing artist
